„Mit seinem Orchestra hat Mothwurf seine Pflöcke nun ziemlich weit am opulenten Ende des musikalischen Feldes eingeschlagen. Ähnlich wie einst der Schweizer und Wahlwiener Komponist Matthias Rüegg mit seinem Vienna Art Orchestra ist er auf der Suche nach einem orchestralen Klang, der jenseits ausgeleierter Klischees eine originäre Musik hervorbringt.“ – Stefan Hentz, Neue Zürcher Zeitung

Ralph Mothwurf, composer and musician, lives and works in Vienna. He studied Jazz composition and contemporary music with Christoph Cech, Carola Bauckholt and Gerd Hermann Ortler.

In 2019 Mothwurf made his debut as a composer and conductor with his newly founded 22piece ensemble „Ralph Mothwurf Orchestra“ at the viennese music club Porgy&Bess. The same year eight new pieces were recorded that were released on the Album „ZELT“ on the label „Edition Ö1 – Contemporary Jazz“ in December 2020. Throughout the last years he worked with renowned Austrian ensembles like Bruckner Orchester and Janus Ensemble and received commissions by Wien Modern, Festspielhaus St. Pölten and St. Florianer Brucknertage.

In addition to his work as a composer, Mothwurf also engages in dramaturgical consultation in the field of contemporary dance and performance arts (Pip. – Emmy Steiner – StellaAward 2019). With his music project „Yasmo und die Klangkantine“, which was founded in 2014, Mothwurf performs concerts throughout the German speaking region (Wiener Konzerthaus, Jazzfest Saalfelden, Donauinselfest, Wiener Festwochen, ImPulsTanz, …) and was nominated for „Songwriter of the Year“ in the course of the „Amadeus Austrian Music Award 2020“.
